🌱 SALES PROS – BORN OR MADE?

I’m living proof that #SalesProfessionals pros are made. Through mentors and other resources, I’ve grown from a somewhat awkward, bumbling guy to a nearly witty sales pro with a flash in the pan every couple of days.

Sales pros must be born (or develop) grit, natural conversation skills, and competitiveness. You can easily learn better communication skills to help grow into a better rep.

☀️ TRAITS THAT MAKE AN SDR SHINE

When hiring for SDRs, I look for two things: A good heart and good work ethic. I need a rep who will treat me, my team, other teammates, and prospects, with respect. That will always be No. 1 for me, because you can’t teach it.

Other than that, SDRs have got to be coachable, organized, and on top of their game.

👀 TAKE ON PERSONALIZED OUTREACH

I really like short and sweet personalization. Volume is important, and if you’ve got surprising, thought-provoking content, you’re going to get what you need while also maximizing time to make calls. When personalizing, all it takes is a quick line that shows me you know me. You’ve got my attention from there.

♟ MOST USEFUL SALES ADVICE

1. If you’ve got anxiety about making phone calls, join the club – we’ve all been there. Think of the absolute worst scenario. What can a prospect do to you other than hang up? Not much. Be different and give your prospect an experience. Don’t be forgettable. When your name pops up in their inbox or you give them a call, they should think “Oh, this guy? Yeah, he’s good.”

2. Don’t put your value in your career. If you miss target, get PIPed, get fired (been there), or any other horrible scenario, it has no reflection of who you are as a person. You are more than sales; sales is just a part of who you are.

🏀 DREAM JOB IF YOU WEREN’T IN SALES

Don’t tell my employer, but #SalesDev is not my dream job. I was a journalism major during my freshman year of college. I would absolutely love to call football, baseball, and basketball games on TV or radio. If anyone out there is hiring, find me and make my dreams come true!
